Yesterday, I had to call the admission counselor for Erin's college. She has been invited to interview for the honors program and compete for a scholarship. We had set the weekend up, but she found out that a major band competition was the same weekend. There are only 2 major competitions. The first one, she missed when she went to the recruit weekend at Houghton. The band director was not happy when that happened. Erin did not want to have to tell him that she would be missing the only other competition. She is 2nd chair and is a very important part of the clarinet section. So I made a call and got the weekend changed. In the process, the admission counselor shared with me that Erin was highlighted on the soccer portion of the website for signing with the team. It was pretty cool to see and read. If you are interested, you can read it at: Houghton College: Press Release Template

Erin has also been invited to be involved in the soccer camps that the college offers during the summer. She will definitely be attending at least 2 of the camps. It will be a great way for her to get her foot on the ball before season and to earn some much needed cash before school begins. She will be lifeguarding (at least we are hopeful that she will be hired back) again as well, though we figured out that she can earn much more at the camps. She has the opportunity to be involved with a third camp, but may not choose to do so. We will see. For now, it is a big blessing to have been asked and to have the opportunity.
